Poetry Month fun!
K5 students created their own List Poems in Library today. After reading "Beetle Bop" by Denise Fleming, we practiced creating a class list poem about FRUIT. We were definitely craving summer after our creations!
Student created list poems (with spelling corrections superimposed) were posted using the iPad PicCollage app.
Yum, yum, cute!

Color Books
The kids loved The Wolf Who Wanted to Change His Color by Orianne Lallemand. The gray wolf felt his color was dreary and tried out a couple of others. In the end, he decided he liked himself just the way he was....gray! Students had a chance to identify which color they liked the wolf best, then they graphed it!

Let it snow, snow, snow!
Minerva Louise is an inquisitive and adventurous sole. As Minerva Louise explores the farm she makes some silly mistakes. In the end, she finds what she needs to stay out in the snow....a new hat!
When Minerva Louise went out exploring she found a fancy barn (also known as the school) and had fun exploring the stalls and nesting boxes. She went home with many new ideas for decorating her own cubby back at the barn.

The Mitten is a great folk tale, that has been retold by many authors. The Parkway Library has both Jan Brett's version and Jim Aylesworth's version. To wrap this up, we created our own class books: |
Happy thanksgiving
I'm a Turkey by Jim Arnosky
To prepare ourselves for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday, we listened to Jim Arnosky tell us his story with song! Gobble, gobble!!
Leigh Hodgkinson (author & illustrator)
We are reading Ms. Hodgkinson's books and started with "Smile." This is a fun book about a young girl that thinks she has lost her smile and looks everywhere for it! Afterwards, we made our own smiles and then smiled for the camera!
The students enjoyed "Goldilocks and Just the One Bear" story. It told what happened after Baby Bear grew up and got lost in the big city.....oh, and happened to stumble upon Goldilock's house......AND try some porridge, test out some chairs and finally take a nap in the just-right bed (sound familiar???). It was fun comparing this story to the original!
Then, we met Limelight Larry. He is such a SHOWOFF! We had fun learning along with Larry that it is more fun to be with our friends, than to show off by ourselves in a sort-of-scary woods!
